Work Credits

Work Credit Guidelines
The Maryland Dressage Association offers its volunteering members great rewards!  Non-Members also can  earn work credits that can be used at some MDA events. Work credits are transferable between family members only.

How to volunteer
Contact the organizer of the show/event you wish to help at. You can find our organizers by several means. The best choice is to visit the Volunteer page. You will also regularly receive volunteer information in e-mail blitzes. You may also contact the current Schooling show Chairperson or president of MDA.

‘Spending’ your Work Credit
After you volunteer you will receive a work credit voucher from that event organizer. Credits are good for 24 months! Members can get a lot of educational bang from their MDA work credits.

Following MDA tradition,  a work credits can be used to defray costs at MDA schooling shows and some MDA events at the face value of the work credit.

Work Credit Face Values
  • Generally; 1 work credit - 4 hours (1/2 day) of service at a show or clinic
  • Generally; 2 work credit - A full day of service at a show or clinic.

List of jobs and the Work Credit earned
  • Show Organizer or Entry Secretary: 4 Work Credits and 2 Free Rides in an upcoming show.
  • Two ring show 3 work credits and a 2 Free Rides in an upcoming show.
  • Day Secretary: 2
  • Scorer: 1 - half day, 2 - full day
  • Scribe: 1 - half day, 2 - full day
  • Gatekeeper /Ring Steward: 1 half day, 2 - full day
  • Runner: 1 half day, 2 - full day
  • Ring Set up: 1 per ring
  • Ring take down: 1 per ring
  • Use of Trailer: 1
  • Lunch Provider: 1
  • Show Grounds or Facility donator: 4 credits or 2 free rides or 1 free membership, or 2 free admissions to the annual awards banquet
  • Facilities donator (Clinic) 2 work credits or $30.00 off ride.
  • Clinic Organizer: 2
  • Committee Chair: 2
  • Committee Member: 1
  • WORK CREDITS FOR LICENSE SHOW ONLY ARE DOUBLE THE VALUE.
Members are encouraged to maintain their own work credit records.

*** VERY IMPORTANT***: IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR YEAR END AWARDS --MEMBERS MUST EARN A MINIMUM OF FOUR (4) FULL WORK CREDITS DURING THE COMPETITION YEAR BEFORE THE CHAMPIONSHIP  FINALS SHOW TO COUNT FOR THE CURRENT YEAR END AWARD SHOW YEAR.
FOUR (4) WORK CREDITS MUST BE EARNED BY WORKING AT A MDA SHOWS.  A MINIMUM OF TW0 (2) MUST BE EARNED AT A SCHOOLING SHOW. 

FINALS SHOW—To enter in a Finals Championship Class all work credits must be earned before the Finals Championship show. Any work credit earned after the Finals show will be applied to the following year.

WORK CREDITS ARE ONLY TRANSFERABLE TO FAMILY MEMBERS. CREDITS EXPIRE 24 MONTHS AFTER THE DATE OF ISSUE.
